    The 10 Square Metres of Love campaign, organized by the National Centre for Women and Children’s Health and UNICEF China, aims to create a way for individuals, organizations, communities, public facilities, Government offices departments, State Owned Enterprises, and corporations to commit to allocating a space to enable women to continue to breastfeed, whether at work, in the home or in public. It gets people to join the campaign and mark the breastfeeding space on a mobile APP map, which can be downloaded and shared. The success of the campaign, that went viral through social media, has resulted in nearly 800 breastfeeding spaces being opened in 77 cities across China.

But in recent years, the Taiwanese military has become the most savvy about courting reporters. Every month, the military organizes media field trips to island outposts, air bases, warships and firing ranges. This week, the military took the media on a two-day tour to see the island's armed forces' model troops of this year. The goal is to convince the public that Taiwan's US-made weapons will keep the democratic, self-ruling island safe until the two sides can figure out a way to heal the split created when the Communist Party won a civil war and took over China in 1949. The outings, which can last two to three days, involve exercises that are painstakingly choreographed for television. Soldiers scale walls in urban warfare drills, helicopters fire rockets at imaginary invading ships and frog men paddle rafts in mock night missions. In the southern naval port of Kaohsiung county, the navy showed one of its three submarines and the Lafayette. It's part of a battle with China that involves TV images instead of missiles and front-page stories instead of tanks. In recent weeks, the propaganda war has been heating up as the massive Chinese military takes advantage of summer weather and stages exercises directly across from Taiwan, which split from China 52 years ago. Chinese leaders hope to convince the Taiwanese that rejecting offers of eventual reunification would be the best way to invite China's growing arsenal of Russian-made destroyers, jets and missiles to crush the island. The most common vehicle for China's fright show is the Hong Kong press. Photos of troops storming beaches in mock invasions or stories quoting Chinese generals have sent the jittery Taiwanese stock market plunging. This month, the pro-China daily Wen Wei Po has been printing a steady stream of photos and stories about war games China is holding on Dongshan Island, opposite of Taiwan.
